Tuscany has long been a place of makers. From ceramic studios and glass workshops to leather artisans, antique dealers and independent boutiques, shopping here is often as much about craftsmanship as it is about the items themselves.
The Villa Cetinale shop offers a carefully chosen collection of pieces inspired by relaxed Mediterranean living, from hand block-printed cotton pyjamas, venetian slippers, womenswear and children’s clothing to Tuscan olive oil, wine, ceramic splatter ware, glassware and table linens.
Close to Villa Cetinale, Siena offers a more local starting point, with independent shops, artisan food stores, ceramic studios and small boutiques tucked into its medieval streets. Colle Val d’Elsa, also nearby, is renowned for crystal and glassmaking, while the surrounding towns and villages are home to workshops producing hand-painted ceramics, woven textiles, olive wood pieces and well-made objects for the home.
Florence offers a broader and more established shopping scene. In the Oltrarno district, artisans continue long-established traditions, producing leather goods, jewellery, stationery and decorative objects from small workshops along quieter streets. Nearby, the historic Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella remains one of the city’s most distinctive destinations, known for its perfumes, soaps and botanical remedies. The Mall Firenze brings together many of Italy’s leading luxury brands, including Prada, Gucci, Valentino and Alexander McQueen, with previous-season collections at outlet prices.
