Hidden Gems Nearby: Cloisters, Churches and Quiet Roads
Art & Culture

Within a short drive of Villa Cetinale, three quiet stops sit close to the road: the Romanesque cloister at Torri (open 09:00–12:00 on Mondays and Fridays), and the hillside churches of San Leonardo al Lago and Pieve di San Giovanni Battista. Short visits that fit neatly between a town, a view and lunch. Timings can vary with services; Isabella, the house manager, can confirm access and suggest simple pairings.
Torri suits a morning start. The cloister opens on Mondays and Fridays, 09:00–12:00, so timings are simple. Parking is nearby and the walk is short. Visits are typically ten to twenty minutes, with minimal fuss on arrival. There is little in the way of facilities, which keeps the stop clear and quick. Pair Torri with Monteriggioni or Colle Val d’Elsa to keep distances short, or fold it into a wider circuit if you plan to range a little further. If timing is tight, make it the first stop before the day opens.

San Leonardo al Lago and Pieve di San Giovanni Battista sit close to the road, with straightforward parking and brief paths to the door. Access can vary with services, so allow a little flex. Fifteen to thirty minutes is enough at each stop. Both pair well with a coffee or a viewpoint, and can sit alongside one town without crowding the day. Also nearby: Badia a Isola on the Via Francigena, and the small medieval bridge of Ponte della Pia. Both combine easily with Monteriggioni or Colle Val d’Elsa.
